Product information "Sumone (Sprengstoff #15)"

SUMONE is back with his second release on Sprengstoff Recordings. Leaving the Ragga Jungle behind he is focusing now on the dark side of the jungle. Time-stretched vocals meet melancholic synth pads on Side A "Making the best of a bad situation". The second side of the record creates with "Zombie" a spooky atmosphere with a bell sound playing a frightening melody straight from a 1950s horror movie. It´s midnight on the dancefloor of the undead!

Avoiding the classical trap of Post-Jungle trying to imitate clean and overproduced Drum´n Bass, SUMONE keeps the production dirty and the drum sounds pretty rough. The sounds on this record breath the air of parties in dark, narrow basements. But you still can hear the Jungle origins in the beat programming. The beats are full of frenetic, fevered energy pushing the tracks forward with their constantly changing structures. These advanced drum edits deconstruct the original sequences of the breakbeats.

On the other hand the Amen break is not in the center of the tracks any more. No longer Jungle, but still not Drum´n Bass – SUMONE left the old style categories to experiment with new musical elements. Most noticeably it is the use of atmospheric sounds that can also be found in progressive Dubstep productions like the ones from INNASEKT.

Or to put it simple: energy-driven jungle beats, dark atmospheres and a melancholic vibe.
