Seven Samurai floor tonight is canceled

The Seven Samurai floor at Bethanien (in the context of Frikk festival) where I was going to play tonight had to be cancelled short notice. The reason is that we were led to believe that entrance was free and donations would be going towards the label. So everyone agreed to play for free. However when we found out that the entry was in fact 6 euro (or 10 for a day ticket) and all the festival organizers were offering was 2 drink tickets each, we had to reconsider.

While all of us are up for playing for free for a good cause (in this instance for example to help the label cut a new record), to get a couple of free drinks at a festival which we were told cost several thousand euros to put on (so someone is getting paid after all!?) is obviously not acceptable. After the festival organisation refused to negotiate this beyond adding a few more drinks, 7S in agreement with all DJ’s and artists had no choice but to cancel.

We will meet up tonight and make plans for 7S party in the near future.

  • To throw an event on donation to support a label is a great idea. Organization can be difficult to manage, especially these days.In any case, what is more important than money or anything else in these situations,is respect!

I can understand the last minute decision to ask for a door entry for what was originally planned to be donation event,as to avoid certain complications and the need to be sustainable and in that decision there should have been new consideration for the artist, to agree to be more fair to them in regards to there being more financial ability. It is the music and the artist who create it that is the most vital point on the pulse of any music event. I am really disappointed these organizers failed to understand that and were not willing to make an effort to give respect to the artist as they deserve. 2 drink tickets is a fucking joke even on a free party! I would have agreed to their stupid request, started to play until the momentum of the party started to kick off and then stopped completely to show by a great example how important the music is and then left with the crew who were also there to make music and explained to the people on the dance floor as to let them understand why in some cases there is no other choice but to do such a thing, when there is no mutual respect between artist and promoters.
