Review by Sharee (Jungle Voodoo) in Knowledge June 2001

“Wow, the best Sub/version I heard so far! The structures of both tracks are quite deep and complex (something that is often lacking in the hardcore genre!) and both tracks have a really dark atmosphere, both tracks are full of ideas and sounds, yeah! My fav track is ‘Avaritia’, the beats are more industrial than pounding which adds to the eery atmosphere of the track and theres this dark synth melody that comes in and now and then, fucking excellent, go get it”. (review by Low Entropy, quoted in digitalworldnet mail order catalog from 2003)

Christoph Fringeli & DJ Pure: Anti-Christ (Sub/Version 002)

Sub/Version 002
Christoph Fringeli & DJ Pure
Anti-Christ

A: Anti-Christ
B: A.C.
Cut at Toolhouse
One pressing of 800 (if I remember right) 1998

“The Praxis / Pure partnership continues in the degenerate party mode with Subversion 002: Antichrist. This samples from the 1984 classic Nature Unveiled album which was built around a nihilist / atheist interpretation of Lautréamont’s “Maldoror” – itself a hugely influential polemic rooted in a twisting and twisted logic of shipwreck fascination, the brutality of nature and the dynamic of evil. The ‘antichrist’ sample comes heavily distorted, darkened and looped – the record adds a break and there you go. The music conjures the passage about christ forming into the body of a charging rhinoceros (a pure and good side to techstep?) only to be brought down and suffer gradual annihilation through the spirit of evil.” (Review by Autotoxicity, 1998)

“This is absolutely dangerous. Two mixes of probably the hardest sick step, combining tough stepping drums – given a metallic reverb to the beats on one mix – with some awesome evil frequency abuse and drones.” (Review by Kovert in datacide four, 1998)

V/A: Dead By Dawn

V/A:
Dead By Dawn
Praxis 23

Dead By Dawn was a series of 23 parties organised by Praxis, TechNet and the Nomex Realist Film Unit in the 121 Center in Brixton, South London from February 1994 until April 1996.
The 121 Center was a squatted anarchist center in Railton Road which existed from 1981 to 1999.
The nights usually started with a talk or discussion organised by the Invisible College upstairs and followed by an all night party in the basement with a ‘shrill-out-lounge’ in the first floor.
There is an excellent history of Dead By Dawn on history is made at night.

After about 17 parties the decision was taken by the organising collective to limit the parties to 23. At the same time we asked regular contributors and special guests to the musical side of the night for tracks for a compilation album.
The following artists contributed a track each: Richie Anderson & Brandon Spivey, Sonic Subjunkies, Deadly Buda, Somatic Responses, DJ Delta 9, DJ Controlled Weirdness, Torah, Aphasic, Shitness & The Jackal.
Each track was paired with audio snippets recorded at the actual parties.
A printed insert by TechNet accompanied the record.

The record was available at the last Dead By Dawn night for the price of 5 pounds as a thank you to the audience. Each artist received 25 copies. Although a total number of 1000 copies were pressed, these facts contributed to the situation that the record is relatively rare on the market and quite sought after.

Base Force One: Dynamite & Fire

Not so much a conceptually homogeneous record like Welcome to Violence (Praxis 27, 1997) or Expenditure of Excess Energy (Still Raven 003, 2003), this third Base Force One EP is a collection of tracks recorded and produced by Christoph Fringeli between 2000 and 2004, released as Praxis 39 in 2005 in a limited edition of 500 copies on red vinyl.

Originally cut by Martin Giles at Alchemy in London.

Digital versions remastered from the original pre-master files by Alex Buess in 2023.
